KII Update for 10 September 2010:
By Dave Rogers

KII is a humanitarian organization that has a program called Ransom Wear which is committed to fighting human trafficking globally.  Our goal is to invest into local people in third world countries.  We do this by encouraging and investing in certain individuals who seek to help their own people.  Ramesh has been one of these individuals!  Ramesh and his workers have done amazing things in Nepal.  This work is now self sustaining and is doing well.  We have stepped back from our commitments there and are looking for a new investment.  Trust me...there are no lack of opportunities but we want the right one!

We've also been making some other important changes.  Since Alex joined our team in March, we've been modifying our organizational structure so that everything will run smoothly when things pick up.  Alex and Ross Chandler are creating a new website that will be much more edgy, informative and educational.  For quite some time we have been urged to trademark "Ransom Wear" so that no one would steal our name.  We began this process earlier in the year but found we could not use that name.  You guessed it!  Someone already owns the rights to the phrase "Ransom Wear" so the search began for a new name and I have to tell you...I never thought that would be so hard or take so long.  We've finally found a name and I even like it!  What is it?  Oh, you'll have to wait until we are approved for our trademark before I tell you!  Just stay tuned!!!  Our new name will require a new logo and that will be in place by next week.  Change is in the air!

We now have a new project goal in india that I'm quite excited about.  When I started working to help victims of human trafficking several years ago, I didn't hear much about that topic.  Today the term "human trafficking" is used everywhere and there are many groups out trying to set girls free in India.  As we've looked at the bigger picture, we see many of these groups recuiting girls but not providing long term care.  In fact, often the girls are released back out on the streets in less than 2 weeks.  Many of these girls end up back in brothels where they become not only resistant to any other rescue attempts, but actually discourage other women from being rescued.  Why? They tell others that once you are rescued, "you'll be put back out on the streets in two weeks with no help or training!"  I strongly believe we must provide an option for these rescued women - a place where they can go once the rescuing group is finished with them.  I envision a facility much like a college with dorms where the girls can stay for a year or more and receive counseling, education and job training.  We will also provide micro-loans to help women start businesses and to make a positive impact on their communities and country.  We haven't named this project yet but it will be an incredible venture!  More on all of this at a later date!
